THE OPPORTUNITY

Equiton is seeking an independent director and trustee to serve on the Board of their private equity real estate fund, focused on multi-residential investing in Canada.  This role will oversee governance of the fund and investor interests, including dealing with conflicts of interest as required.  The independent director must not have any conflicts of interest and must pass all necessary background checks.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in quarterly board meeting meetings and annual general meetings (no travel required)
  • Remain current on issues and trends that affect the company
  • Request clarification or more information as needed
  • Carry out additional committees as required
  • Deal with inter-quarter items as presented
  • Support governance decisions once made
  • Ensure the company is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Expected time commitment of up to 25 to 35 hours per year

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 20 plus years’ real estate experience (especially income producing assets like multi-family) and/or in- depth financial services background
  • Operational experience and good understanding of the real estate investing space
  • Strong financial literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, willingness to learn and desire to provide support and assistance to the general partner
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Prior board experience an asset
