Rowan House Society – Board Member Profile
The Board is legally accountable for Rowan House Society. Thus, each Board member is expected to actively participate in the effective governance of the Board and to advance the Society’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

The Role:
To fulfill the role and responsibilities, Board members will:
- Keep informed on organizational matters at the governance level, as well as on issues and trends provincially, nationally, and
- Be familiar with Rowan House Society Bylaws, mission, vision, values and relevant social issues, and current relevant
- Approve, where appropriate, policy and other recommendations developed by the Board, and received from Board committees and the leadership team members.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant
- Monitor all Board policies, including the Bylaws, Rowan House Society incorporation of objectives and recommend changes when
- Review the Board’s structure and recommend changes when
- Welcome diversity and model inclusivity among Board
- Abide by and support the decisions of the Board by communicating Board positions and values when speaking outside of Board
- Participate in the development of the strategic plan for Rowan House Society and review the plan annually
- Approve and monitor the budget for Rowan House
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place to safeguard, promote, and protect the assets of Rowan House
- Approve the hiring of the Executive Director by the recommendation of the Executive Committee (including terms of employment),and participate in evaluating the Executive Director.
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive relationships among Board members, Board committees, staff members, key partners, and the community, to enhance the mission of Rowan House
The Board meetings monthly with the exception of July, August and December.
There are also opportunities to participate one to two board committees.
